The Panza Collection (English Edition). Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza, Varese

This book illustrates through typologies and “schools of thought” the collection held at Villa Menafoglio at Biumo Superiore: from Minimalist art, represented by Dan Flavin, Conceptual art by Ian Wilson, and Environmental art of Turrell, Irwin and Nordman, to works exploring color by Roeth, Fredenthal, Simpson, Sims, Spalletti and Arends, and the “vital form” with works by Graham, Kiecol, Puryear, and Highstein, as well as Max Cole, Meg Webster and Ford Beckman. The final part of the work gives an account of the history of the collection, of loans to important Italian museums and of exhibitions organized by the collector and held in the contemporary art museums of Los Angeles, Madrid and Bilbao.Giuseppe Panza di Biumo is the most important collector in the world of works by contemporary artists: he owns about 2.500 works. Many of these works are conserved in Villa di Biumo.A part of the collection was purchased by the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Arts in 1980 which now exhibits 80 works of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art: Jean Fautrier, Franz Kline, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Mark Rothko, George Segal and Antonio Tàpies.
