Hiroshige (1797-1858), the celebrated Japanese master of nature and landscape is universally considered one of the greatest exponents of the art of the Floating World (ukiyoe), which between the beginning of the 17th century and the end of the 19th century best expressed the tastes and style of proto-modern Japanese society of the large cities, the merchant and entrepreneurial classes and the bourgeoisie in general. The chromatic richness in Hiroshige's works, the architecture of his images, his intense involvement with nature and his ability to convey the feeling of nature made him one of the artists most appreciated by the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, especially Van Gogh, Monet and Whistler, and within Art Nouveau, as well as by Frank Lloyd Wright, who created the first ever exhibition of the master's work.
