Heidi Bucher

The Swiss artist Heidi Bucher (Winterthur, Switzerland, 1926 - Brunnen, Switzerland, 1993) is widely recognised for her "skinnings" which she made through the avant-garde practice of casting objects and surfaces with mixed materials, most notably with latex, mother-of-pearl and fabric. These artworks analyse the surrounding architecture and her own interior space. This publication, released on the occasion of her first solo show in Italy, looks at her complex relationship with Minimalism; her position as a proto-Feminist artist; her representation of architecture and the performative aspects of her work. The exhibition includes a seminal body of work from the 1950s to the early 1990s, spanning the different phases of her artistic career.
